High Protein Diets Do they Really Work?

Products Catalog

In the endless pursuit of weight loss I have my doubts on the High Protein Diets Effectiveness as a weight loss program. I am going to tell a true story here that I feel proves this program is not what they claim.

I began the Body for Life fat loss program in 2000. This is a 12 week weight loss program that focuses more on fat loss than weight loss. Don't get me wrong it is all about losing weight but losing the right kind of weight FAT. My before and after Body for Life Pictures in a 12 week period. I lost 35 lbs of fat and went from 26% body fat to 9%.

I have done numerous articles that go into detail the difference in weight loss and fat loss. At that time a customer as well began the Atkins Diet. I suggested to him to do a body fat percentage test to make sure the weight he was losing was good weight, Fat and not muscle. We tested 1 month latter I had lost 12 pounds of fat and gained 3 pounds of muscle for a net weight loss of 9 pounds, or my body fat went from 25% to 22%. This is ideal as losing fat is the whole weight issue and muscle is what burns the fat.

He had lost 22 pounds so we did a fat % test on him. To his horror he had lost 15 ponds of muscle and 7 pounds of fat, but his body fat  percentage actually increased from 30% to 32%. This is terrible as to lose weight and actually get fatter is not a good solution on top of that he has lost the ability to burn 500 calories a day due to the muscle loss, plus he was lifting weights and doing cardio as I was. Needless to say he didn't believe me so he did another test to measure his body fat being submerged in water and he came back to me with the report. I was correct right on the money with my test so he quit the Atkins Diet and took up the Body for Life program.

The EAS BFL program is just a common sense one were you exercise and reduce your portion sizes and consume 5 or 6 meals rather than 3. By adding more meals your body actually doesn't need the amount of food you ate in the other 3 meals. The program helps make you more aware of what not to eat and gives you a good idea of what to eat in good portion sizes.

The high protein diet causes the body to lose water thus the misconception of weight loss, this is incorrect. I know you have heard the claims  lose 30 pounds in 3 weeks or some other lie, well 99.9% of it is water and will come right back on thus you actually did piss away the money a diuretic is all it was. Trying to live and continue a high protein diet is also impossible so those that do lose a very high percentage of them gain it back plus some, remember we lose a good deal of muscle so we gain fat faster due to the reduced calories we burn.

Learn the correct way to manage your health, nutrition, and portion sizes. You don't have to consume 5-6 meals a day but it does really help fuel your body and keeps your energy levels up. The biggest help you get is a program that will last for 12 weeks and helps teach you new healthy habits to replace unhealthy habits. I know it was 7 years ago I did began I still continue to eat 6 meals a day and exercise as often as possible, rest and drink plenty of water and the most important part is I have  maintained my weight body fat is about 18%. Not bad for a 54 year old man.
